: A Comedy of Errors - Unforgettable First Dates to Forever
Kristine + Liam
Theirs is a love story that began with a series of delightful misadventures that only grew their affection for one another. From unexpected moments to unforgettable memories, their journey is a celebration of connection, romance, and true love. Read on as these comical errors unfold, leading to a romance you won’t believe.
"I knew he was a keeper when his immediate reaction was, “whoever stole it probably needed it more than me.” We’ve spoken every day since that date."
Q. How did you guys first meet and fall in love?
We matched on Hinge in 2018. We went on a doggy play date for our first date, and within the first 30 minutes Liam’s Aussie, Luna, inexplicably decided to pee all over my legs - something she’s never done before or since. On our second date, my car was broken into and Liam’s backpack, including his laptop, was stolen out of it, but I knew he was a keeper when his immediate reaction was, “whoever stole it probably needed it more than me.” We’ve spoken every day since that date. I actually wrote a blog about our meeting with lots of details that you can see here: https://kristine-dg.is/blog/2019/9/28/a-year-of-us
"I knew before we even hit our 3rd date that there was a good chance Liam was my person"
Q. How did you know you wanted to marry each other and who wanted to tie the knot first?
Kristine: I knew before we even hit our 3rd date that there was a good chance Liam was my person and that we would one day get married, it was just so easy and effortless being with him (it still is!). But we didn't officially start talking about it with each other until about 1.5 years into our relationship. It was 2020, deep into the pandemic lockdown, and we built a fort in our living room for one of our stay-at-home dates. Over dinner in the fort he asked me what I was most looking forward to in our relationship and that's when I told him that I wanted to get married and pick out a ring and do the whole life thing together. We were engaged 7 months later. :)
Liam: I decided I wanted to marry Kristine when I was in Dublin on a 5-week work trip. Being apart for that long gave me a lot of time and space to reflect on what our relationship meant to me and I realized that she makes me feel loved and supported and that I have so much trust in the foundation of our relationship. Feeling like we could get through any challenge together made me want to take on life with her.
"...it was important to me to get a ring that I'd feel excited to wear every day."
Q. Why did you choose HIDDENSPACE, how did you hear about us, and what made you decide on this specific ring?
Kristine: Honestly, I can't even remember how I found Hiddenspace - I think it was either an Instagram ad or maybe IG had recommended the page organically because I'd been looking at rings from other designers (that were way too expensive). I *loved* Hiddenspace's designs immediately and more than any other designer or jeweler I'd come across. At the time you guys only had a few thousand followers so the company was fairly new! But I knew I wanted a salt and pepper diamond in a kite shape, and Hiddenspace has such a cool aesthetic - super unique and unlike anything else in the market. Liam had originally wanted to pick out the ring himself and surprise me, but I vetoed that immediately - I have a fairly unique personal aesthetic (for example I wear a lot of black and chains, as you can see on my wedding day), and it was important to me to get a ring that I'd feel excited to wear every day. Once I saw the Lucy ring, it was over, I knew that was the one! I sent the design to my sister and my best friend who then secretly shared it with Liam, who had the ring made when he was out of the country for 5 weeks on a work trip. We both got what we wanted - I was completely surprised when he proposed, and I got exactly the ring I wanted in the end. ☺️
Liam: It was a ring fit for the witchy, gothy, badass, beautiful Queen that I now get to call my wife!
"..it felt only natural that we'd get married on NYE 2 years later on 12/31/22, at our own big warehouse party in downtown LA. It was dark, moody, sexy, and perfect..."
Q. Tell us about the details of the proposal & the wedding. How did you feel? How did it go?
We said "I love you" to each other for the first time on NYE 2018, after going to a warehouse party in downtown LA, and 2 years later, Liam proposed on NYE 2020 while we were staying at an Airbnb deep in the redwoods of Santa Cruz. Because of this, it felt only natural that we'd get married on NYE 2 years later on 12/31/22, at our own big warehouse party in downtown LA. It was dark, moody, sexy, and perfect - a celebration of new traditions and new beginnings, and the best party we've ever been to (and we've been to A LOT of parties 😉)
"You both will change and evolve as individuals and within your relationship so it's important to check-in regularly to see where the other person is at - how you're feeling, what's important to you right now, what do you see in the future for the relationship, etc."
Q. Tell us about your favorite memory together.
This is hard to answer because we've shared so many memorable moments together, including our wedding.
Q. Any advice to couples or newlyweds? Anything else you’d like to share with the world?
Have a weekly check-in! You both will change and evolve as individuals and within your relationship so it's important to check-in regularly to see where the other person is at - how you're feeling, what's important to you right now, what do you see in the future for the relationship, etc. We attended a Gottman Institute workshop before we got married and it was enormously helpful and we still follow their "State of the Union" meeting format as often as we can.
