What is a S&P Diamond?
At HIDDENSPACE, we have a special love for salt and pepper diamonds, especially when they come in kite or hexagon shapes! Our engagement rings are designed to showcase their uniqueness and mesmerizing patterns. While these diamonds may not have been popular in the past, they have recently gained more attention as one-of-a-kind gems. For those who are considering this style or may not be familiar with it yet, we'd like to share some insights about these bewitching stones.
Where do they come from?
The natural diamond process happens below the earth’s surface. They are composed of carbon atoms bonded together under high temperature and pressure. (Relatable, much?) When they’ve completed formation, they are brought up to the surface during rare volcanic eruptions.
What are inclusions?
When natural diamonds are found, they do not look at all sparkly like you see on engagement rings. They are raw, uncut, and with imperfections (also known as flaws or inclusions). These inclusions are materials trapped inside the diamond during the growth process. Typically, they look like cracks, feathers, or cloud-like features that make up the distinct characteristics of a S&P diamond.
Are they real diamonds?
Salt and pepper diamonds, also known as "galaxy diamonds," are a departure from the classic brilliant white diamond, but make no mistake, they are still authentic diamonds! These gems are distinguished by their one-of-a-kind inclusions, which do not conform to the traditional 4 Cs grading system - cut, color, clarity, and carat. Their unique features make them stand out from the crowd and offer a distinctive look that is simply out of this world.
Why do we love them?
The allure of S&P diamonds lies in their depth. They exude an air of mystery, unveiling pockets of sparkle and shine from every angle. The intricate and one-of-a-kind features of the gem are what captivate you and leave you wanting more!
What should you look for?
Everyone has a look that they prefer whether it’s to go for a saltier (lighter) or pepperier (darker) kind of diamond. Consider what kind of mood the diamond creates or if they pull you in with their one-of-a-kind patterns. When you see THE one, you'll know for it's an unforgettable moment that will leave you breathless.
