“Just after midnight at a New Year’s Eve party on January 1, 2014, Kevin and Marie met for the first time on the dance floor in a dance battle. [...] Kevin laughed and knew that he had been challenged to a dance battle.”
Q. How did you guys first meet and fall in love?
A. Just after midnight at a New Year’s Eve party on January 1, 2014, Kevin and Marie met for the first time on the dance floor in a dance battle. Marie had seen Kevin’s super dope dance moves and super-fly hairstyle from across the room and she knew she had to dance with that guy. Marie built up enough courage to jump into the dance circle that Kevin was in and swung both her arms wide open, leaned to the right, gave Kevin a smirk, and without an exchange of words, Kevin laughed and knew that he had been challenged to a dance battle. They both smiled and began to dance to some hip-hop song that they still can’t remember and continued to dance until Kevin asked for a birthday kiss. Marie, not believing a single word he said, needed Kevin to prove himself by showing his I.D. Kevin was disappointed when all he got was a measly peck on the cheek. So he asked Marie out on their first date a few days later and they were instantly drawn to each other’s energy, sense of humor, and personalities.Kevin fell in love with Marie after she baked some sweets for him and Marie fell in love with Kevin after he said I LOVE YOU first.
“I knew I wanted to marry him when he agreed to challenge me on the dance floor the first time we met.”
Q. How did you know you wanted to marry each other and who wanted to tie the knot first?
A. Kevin: I knew I wanted to marry her when she thought she was a better dancer than I was, and I obviously wanted to tie the knot first.
Marie: I knew I wanted to marry him when he agreed to challenge me on the dance floor the first time we met. His love for travel, music, dance and our pups Chance and Mango makes me happy.
On March 3, 2022, they celebrated their 8 year anniversary by starting a new chapter in their love story and becoming dance partners for life as Mr. and Mrs. Shayeghi!
“Kevin knew that Marie never wanted to have a diamond stone as an engagement ring. [...] Together they designed the perfectly-unique ring with a brilliant green peridot stone.”
Q. Why did you choose Hiddenspace, how did you hear about us, and what made you decide on this specific ring?
A. The design of the ring was inspired by a picture of another ring that Marie saw on instagram that just so happened to be designed by Hiddenspace. Kevin knew that Marie never wanted to have a diamond stone as an engagement ring. So, he reached out to Hiddenspace and together they designed the perfectly-unique ring with a brilliant green peridot stone, which also happened to be Kevin and Marie’s favorite color.
“These two were on cloud nine, driving all around Lake Tahoe after the proposal. [...] They wanted to live in the moment with each other and truly embrace the glow and love that their proposal had brought to them.”
Q. Tell us about the proposal and the details of the wedding. How did you feel? How did it go?
A. On August 21, 2021 Kevin asked Marie to be his wife at their favorite spot in Lake Tahoe immediately after a freestyle dance he performed while having Marie record him with his phone. This was something they did quite often on their trips whenever Kevin was inspired by nature, Marie would encourage him to dance to a song that felt good. Kevin asked Marie to choose the song he was to dance to and just allowed his body to do the moving. Kevin’s love for the art of dance was filmed by Marie, who also has a love for not only dance, but film and photography as well. These two were on cloud nine, driving all around Lake Tahoe after the proposal. They both shared such a beautiful vibe together and wanted to wait to tell everyone until they got to their hotel. They wanted to live in the moment with each other and truly embrace the glow and love that their proposal had brought to them. Kevin supported and waited for Marie to finish her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing so that she could focus on school and not plan a wedding. It was the perfect timing and the perfect milestone in their lives together. The details of the wedding have just too much to discuss. So many things went wrong but those things that did go right were so magical. There were also a few amazing surprises that brought tears to our eyes like when Marie’s brother, JD, was put on the projector screen and gave a beautiful speech about love. He was stuck on an island, served for the US Navy and was able to deliver such a tear jerking poem that made the entire wedding venue cry.
“Don’t wait to tell your partner how much you love them and how much they annoy you. [...] Acknowledge your partner’s feelings and allow them their own time to express themselves without interruption.”
Q. Any advice to future couples? Anything else you’d like to share with the world?
A. Don’t wait to tell your partner how much you love them and how much they annoy you. Be open about your communication and find ways to discover the truths behind their frustrations and to dissect your disagreements. Acknowledge your partner's feelings and allow them their own time to express themselves without interruption. Listen first, then learn from each other’s feedback. Love is messy and very hard, every day will have its challenges and a strong couple will continue to put in the work in order to grow in their relationship. Loving each other not only means fun and happy times, it also means compromise.
