Tying the Knot #3

: The Most Unconventionally-Elegant Wedding in Black

Irelia + Josh

Alright! Empty your minds of those preconceived images of white and petal-pink weddings because our couple from Stockton, California is about to bless our cravings for eccentric aesthetics with a wedding that’s out of this world.

“It’s funny because we even went to the same middle school, too, but we didn’t even know the other person existed until we saw each other for the first time in high school. ”

Q. How did you guys meet and fall in love?

A. We first met in our freshman year of high school in 2010. It's funny because we even went to the same middle school, too, but we didn't even know the other person existed until we saw each other for the first time in high school! We started dating in 2011 for one year and then we broke up, and got back together in 2015 and have been together ever since.

“So when are you going to propose to me?”

Q. How did you know you wanted to marry each other & who wanted to tie the knot first?

A. I think we both knew early on that we wanted to marry each other, even in high school, we'd say, "Oh, when we grow up and get married..."
Our relationship just felt unique and precious. Especially after we got back together, and we eventually had 2 kids and even moved in together,
I was like, "So, when are you going to propose to me?"

“The most beautiful, unique ring I’ve ever seen - the Oval Star Ring. It was THE ONE.”

Q. Why did you choose Hiddenspace and what made you decide on this specific ring?

A. I found Hiddenspace through another jewelry store called Gem Breakfast because they both did a collab on a ring (because I was already looking for rings I would like to show Josh). They had the most beautiful, unique ring I've ever seen and it was called the Oval Star Ring by Hiddenspace. But they eventually sold it. So I started following Hiddenspace on IG and they brought back the Oval Star Ring and that's when I told Josh it was back and that it was the ring I really wanted. Like, my man, it was THE ONE. We also paired it with the Star Prong Band.

“He proposed to me at our house when we were outside, lighting up the fire-pit and enjoying the spring night. I had a feeling he was going to propose because he kept nervously pacing around and he couldn’t sit still.”

Q. Tell us about the details of the proposal & the wedding. How did you feel? How did it go?

A. At first I didn't even know Josh bought the ring, and when it was delivered to the house, I saw it was from Hiddenspace and that's when I started fangirling because I knew it was to be my engagement ring, and I would soon be upgraded from girlfriend to fiancé. He didn't let me see the ring until he proposed to me a few months later and it was even more beautiful in person! He proposed to me at our house when we were outside lighting up the firepit and enjoying the spring night. I had a feeling he was going to propose because he kept nervously pacing around and he couldn't sit still. We had a micro wedding a year later in San Francisco on our 7th year anniversary. It was such a fun, stress-free day, especially since we only had close family and friends there.

“Black is my favorite color and I wasn’t going to spend money on something that wasn’t uniquely me. Don’t let someone tell you what to do on your day. Your unique touch is what’s going to make your wedding even more special.”

Q. Any advice to future couples? Anything else you’d like to share with the world?

A. My advice for future couples would be to keep being you. Don't let anyone tell you you should have any part of your wedding be more "traditional," especially if it's just not you. For example, I had a black wedding dress instead of a traditional white. Black is my favorite color and I wasn't going to spend money on something that wasn't uniquely me. Don't let someone tell you what to do on your day. Your unique touch is what's going to make your wedding even more special.
